When UVA beat Miami last year 48-0, did Randy Shannon bitch about them running up the score?
Just wondering.
Or how about VaTech, when they went 44-14, and score in the last 3 minutes. Or Oklahoma? 51-13 When they scored in the last 3 minutes. If a 23 point spread is RUTS then over half of Miamis games from 1980-2000 can be considered RUTS. For Shannon, of all people to cry about Meyer doing it, is utter hypocrisy.
I see Miami didn't have any mercy on Charleston Southern, Or Marshall last year.
Randy needs to quit crying, he is losing respect and recruits in South Florida or being a sissy about this. Seriously.
Do you, (or anyone else) really expect any team to kneel down and give you that ball? What if we go for it and score a TD? Then what? 30-3 looks so much better right? We couldnt run the clock out, it was 4th down, the only merciful thing is to kick a FG. Since when does 23 points equate to RUTS?
OSU fans, do you think Florida was RUTS in the NC game? 41-14. that's RUTS if you compare it to this game.
Point is, RUTS happens every season, by every coach. For those of you (ABM) who thinks Urban Meyer kept Tebow in to "pad" stats, don't you think he would have done that against Hawaii? Tim was out of the game by the 4th quarter, or very early into it. Thats a game you pad your stats. Not against Miami.
The fact is, it is the offenses job to score points, and the defensives job to stop them. From the Coordinators to the Players. Top to bottom. This was not RUTS. Do baseball players stop swinging up 10 in the 8th? Do Basketball players stop shooting, up 20 with 2 minutes to go?
For those who think the 3 points was meaningless, all you need to do is look at the AP poll Monday to see that the "proof is in the pudding" #4 UF, #5 OSU. If that games stays 9-3, OSU sits in #4. Since we won by 23, OSU drops to #5. Style points are everything in this game. Heck, it won UF a championship in 2006. We barely edged out Michigan to get to the NC game, based on style.
It's a cruel world, Randy, and others need to learn to live with it, or just move along.
