I'm stealing this from Hineygate. I thought Cincy would like it
Arrest records!!
(not suspensions or breaking of team/school or NCAA rules)
The cost of winning is really fen’ hurting the integrity of college football and the game I love; I mean 907 arrests in 6 years just from the 65 major conference teams, Hell even the NFL with 32 teams only had 267 arrests or an average of 8.4 per team.
I found this site that lists almost every sport and the number of arrests each team has had
(looks as if it goes back to 2010). Now arrest records could be anything from a major crime to something as petty as driving with an expired license or peeing in an alley. It also doesn’t mean they were found guilty or if they went to trial or if the case was dropped (I would have to pay to see that). But just maybe it gives a pretty good indication of the character of players being recruited as far as college football goes.
Those 907 arrests since 2010 averaged 13.9 per team in a six year period.
We all know kids will get into some kind of trouble, part of life, but I think all conferences should try to get the average down to about 6 /7 per team over a five year period and anything over 15 per team should have some type of restriction / penalty put on them. As of now that would be about 23 teams or 35% of the 65 major teams. Than again-- why give Nicky boy another reason to complain about because he would be one of em’.
I have all the major teams done and there are a few surprises; no not the worst conference (that will never change) but some teams because of their status (as not being a major threat to winning a NC) ESecPN or other sites don’t even mention them. Like when was the last time you read anything bad about Iowa State ?
The worst one is also a team that’s not only bad in football but other sports as well (yet Urban Meyer is still getting the blame).
The worst five!!
1) Florida ; Since 2010 (37) have been arrested, 25 in football and 12 in other sports and 36 of them have been made since Urban left. Go figure !!
2) Washington State : 35, thirty one in football and 4 in other sports
3) Iowa State : 34, 21 in football and 13 in other sports
4T) Iowa : 32, 18 in football and 14 in other sports
4T) Georgia : 32, 22 in football and 10 in other sports
5) Ole Miss: 27, 20 in football and 7 in other sports
Damn did Urban ever coach at these schools? Must have huh!!
The Best five!!
1) Rutgers ; fen’ Zero!!, I find that hard to believe but nothing showed up.
2T) Northwestern; 1 in football
2T) Boston College : 1 in football
4T) Wisconsin : 2 , both in football
4T) California : 2 , both in football
4T) Stanford: 2, 1 in football and one in another sport
Some others: UCLA & Vanderbilt with 3 each
By Conference; listed by average per team and who had the least.
ACC: 140 (avg. 10 per team)
108 (77%) in football (7.7 per team)
32 (23%) in other sports
Only two 14% would get a restriction if applied.
Pac-12: 121 (avg. 10.1 per team)
103 (85%) in football (8.6 per team)
18 (15%) in other sports
Only two 17% would get a restriction if applied.
Big-Ten: 165 (avg. 11.8 per team)
120 (73%) in football (8.6 per team)
45 (27%) in other sports
Only three 21% would get a restriction if applied.
Big-12: 174 (avg. 17.4 per team)
129 (74%) in football (12.9 per team)
45 (26%) in other sports
Five or 50% would get some type of restriction if applied
SEC: 301 (avg. 21.5 per team)
232 (77%) football (16.6 per team)
69 (23%) in other sports
11 or 79% would get some type of restriction if applied.
Notre Dame: 6, 5 in football and one in another sport
Sorry sec, but I don’t consider BYU a major team yet!!
I would have loved to seen these records prior to 1993, I would bet there wouldn’t be much difference at all between the conferences and not as many arrest as well.
Here’s the link if anyone is interested. I’m sure some can argue the list; I just put down what it shows.
