This is so huge. And the CFP doing it makes it legit. It is past time that the NCAA look at the expenses to athletes and their families surrounding collegiate sports and come up with a way to provide funding. Perhaps some sort of division-wide program so all athletes get equal benefits or something. Going to school is expensive and difficult enough. Going to school and being a serious athlete for your school is a whole other level of hard, financially and otherwise.

Ok, so do they start doing that for basketball too? What about women's softball? What draws the line here? Does it have to be just football? And is it just the title game, or will it be the final four next year? Or the final eight?

Again, the COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF, which is a separate entity from the NCAA, made a decision to take a portion of their earnings and put it towards travel for families.

Now, if the NCAA (who runs March Madness) decides it wants to take some of the proceeds and use it to help families travel to the championship game, that would be on them.

I don't know who runs the women's softball college world series, so I can't help you out there.

This is NOT a slippery slope or a can of worms or a pandora's box or any other analogy you want to call it.

It is something that SHOULD have been done, and I am glad for once a body is willing to sacrifice money (albeit in the grand scheme of things, not a ton of money) to gain some good PR, and aren't hiding behind the BS shield of amateurism that the NCAA does.

Considering the insane amount of money they make off of March Madness? Yes.

As for the other situations, I don't know how much they make off of, to use Cincy's example, the Women's College Softball World Series, but I am thinking the margin on that is razor thin, so no.

Women's College Softball World Series is probably supported by CFB money.

Other than basketball, most playoff locations don't try to exploit the presence of the playoff by jacking up hotel rates and associated air fare. Additionally, much of the championship playoff is in one location (wrestling is a 3 day tournament for example). I don't think you can expect reimbursement for the entire tournament trail regardless of sport. This is a benefit just for the championship game. I like that. I also don't believe the same kind of thing needs to be extended to all other sports for one big reason. You should receive comparable to what you contribute. Football is the NCAA cash cow so they should be "compensated" a bit more than other sports.
