If JTB were healthy, then I would agree with you.

But it's more of a compelling human interest story if Jones steps up and there is little to no loss in offensive production. They already knew what Barrett could do, but Cardale is a big mystery to most. Hell...he's a mystery to Buckeye Nation at this moment! Even the most serious of us Buckeye homers don't know if he's going to be ready or if he's got the stuff to step in and win. But if he pulls this game out and we win the B10 championship, THAT is the best human interest story the selection committee can ever hope for, and human interest stories are what compel viewers to flip on their TV's and watch, even the tOSU haters. The Olympics have known that for years and that's why they spend so much time and effort to build up and film those little narratives about mostly unknown athletes - it gets people interested in following those athletes in their obscure sports, which creates TV ratings and commercial revenue. How many of us follow curling or the decathelon or the triple jump unless we're watching the Olympics? But tell us a feel-good story about some Olympic athlete we've never heard of and we're all glued to the event to see how it turns out for him/her. This whole playoff system was put in place to create more revenue for CFB and its sponsors. The Selection Committee is aware that in order for this system to survive, it most produce TV ratings, which turn into dollars. I guarantee that the fanbases and the back-stories of all these contenders will be considered before the final decision is made. People like human interest stories mixed in with their football and that will play into this IF Cardale pulls this off. This whole season could be made into a movie with all these twists and turns of fate!

John Gruden was on Mike and Mike today. When asked about Baylor and TCU, he basically ignored the Baylor vs TCU question and answered that the committee would be nuts to not let OSU in if we win this week with our 3rd string qb.

Paul Finebaum, a belligerent SEC homer and hater of all things B1G, said it would be a crime if OSU got left out of the playoffs. It doesn't seem that the committee shares his and Gruden's feelings though.

If TCU, OSU and Baylor all win this weekend, this leaves TCU as the only one of the bunch that didn't win their conference. I know that isn't the most important criteria, but I would expect it to at least be one of the criteria. Everyone discussing the rankings seems to be ignoring that aspect.

Except the Big XII has officially declared BOTH TCU and Baylor conference champs if they win this weekend. They weren't going to commit to one over the other unless that would mean neither would make it.

I honestly don't think that the playoff committee "wants" anything, whether to keep a team in or out of the playoff or to get better TV ratings. I can't see how any of the members would benefit directly from getting more popular match ups, and their rankings seem to show that. I don't believe they are trying to keep Ohio State "out" either, else they would have jumped Baylor over them using the JTB injury as an excuse.

I can't comment on how well they are doing their job, since the final rankings are what really determines that. But my current assessment of the CFP committee is that they are only interested in trying to do a good job and be as neutral as possible. They were also given a very difficult task, especially this particular year, with only a 4-team playoff format, almost guaranteeing there will be at least a team or two "left out" that had a legitimate claim. This really shows how important at least an 8 team playoff is, with the power five having automatic bids with conference champs.

But I suppose we wouldn't be having these discussions if it were an 8 team playoff and all the media would have to talk about are actual games and not just speculation.

There would still be discussions about who's in if it went to 8 teams. But then it would be about how Mississippi State is so much more deserving than Michigan State, e,g,. Or people would be complaining about seeding. Why does Alabama get to play Michigan State when FSU is undefeated?

Heck, look at the NCAA. They allow 68 teams into that tourney and there is still lots of expert analysis about why that 69th team got robbed and has to play in the NIT.

Not really a fair comparison. No one in their right mind would believe the 69th team would have a chance at winning it all.

True, but when it comes to football I think there will often be a big difference between the 5th team and the 9th team. An 8 team playoff is the way to go.

Ok the biggest thing no one has mention is that if Baylor and TCU both wins. The Big 12 has already stated that there will be a Co-Champion. So they can make them the best looking possible. Baylor beats KSU and TCU should drill ISU. I have a feeling the only way OSU gets in is that you will have to have two of the four lose. OSU is the outside looking in. First we have to beat Wisky. Then you/we need both TCU and Baylor to lose if they both win and just one of the other top 3 teams lose you could very well get both TCU and Baylor in.

I think we need a team above us to lose. Not two. No way Baylor jumps us with a win over Kansas State. Our win over Wisky would be far better than theirs.

Edit: Chalk this one up to me completely forgetting that KSU is as highly ranked as they are. Baylor winning that game would be a big deal. I just don't see any way that the committee puts both Baylor and TCU in the playoff. If they do, great...that means an 8 team playoff is coming quickly.
