It would be an absolute travesty

On the drive up to Ohio, as I was passing through Tennessee, I was surfing the radio dial, On one of my auditory stops, I heard some local sports guys discussing the college football playoff picture.

They mentioned that if Ohio State were to win out, the media would be pushing for them to get in even though they've done nothing to deserve it. 'It would be an absolute travesty if Ohio State got in. They lost to a really crappy Virginia Tech game that lost to Wake Forest.'

Even though I retorted ' yeah, in week 2', I'm pretty sure they couldn't hear me through the radio.

Just thought you'd like to hear how people outside the state of Ohio look at OSU.

I was going to make a post similar to this the other day, but didn't get a chance to stop be here much in my travels. I prefer listening to talk radio, sports talk this time of year, and in my journey through SEC country(from home here in S. Florida through Alabama to NW Mississippi and then back to Alabama and through Georgia back home) I noticed an extraordinary amount of sports talk radio talking college football. The SEC nut hugging was unbearable. The talking heads in Mississippi crying about MSU potentially being left out was quite comical and irritating at the same time. Thankfully I was made aware XM radio is free right now and promptly tuned into ESPN radio where it stayed. It's pretty bad when I rush to ESPN to get away from SEC overload.

What i find hilarious is them bringing up the va tech game...they're not the same team today. Play that game over right now...and they probably win by 3-4 scores. The argument doesn't hold water because anyone with half a brain knows this right now. OSU has one black eye, but you could say FSU has at least 3 of them to discuss. Yes, they won those games, but they shouldn't have been close in them...hell, they've trailed in "5" games this year, three of them by big margins.

So i don't wanna hear it...

Hey guys, let's look at this objectively. OSU had a bad OOC, and the B10 is down. Yes, OSU is a better team now, but the only named team they played OOC is a 5-6 VT team, and they lost at home by 14. As for the rest of the top of the B10, they suffered the same fate:

Wisky lost to LSU
MSU lost to Oregon
Minny lost to TCU


So although the B10 now has 4 ranked teams, they all had a chance to win a good to great OOC, and they failed. Not sure how any one loss team with that resume has a complaint if they get left out.

Because MissSt, Alabama, TCU, and Oregon all had such strong OOC schedules, right? I know that game Bama played against West Carolina was tough, but the Tide showed a lot of poise holding onto victory.

TCU's signature OOC victory was against Minnesota, but then according to what you said, wins against Big Ten teams don't count.

Cincy, you're making comparisons that aren't objective and are based on perceptions. The SEC OOC schedule has been horrible for years, and yet they get a pass because of the perception of their conference. The Big Ten is said to be "down" every year, again because of perception.

You're not being objective. Admittedly, there isn't enough data to actually be objective.

As much as I hate to agree with you...heh...and this argument in general, you are spot on. If OSU gets left out, it will suck, but we really don't have anything to gripe about. I will be extremely bummed, but the reality is we laid a very serious egg against what turned out to be a not very good team. You can make arguments against every other 1 loss team as well, but the bottom line is we controlled our own destiny and didn't produce.

I still think if we win our last two games we will be in, but if we aren't, we don't have room to complain.

Heh, I am sure that did hurt! Just seems like of the one loss teams, OSU has one of the weaker arguments this year. However, after week 2 I am guessing no one on here would have complained about winning out and going to a major bowl. This OSU team may have the most young talent I have ever seen in Columbus, could be scary good next year.
