Not a very fair comment. He had one very bad lapse of judgement and there are stories out there by former players saying he wasn't taking his diabetes medication and seemed off that day. Unfortunately for him, his worst day was televised on national TV.

He was a great man up till the very end. I can personally attest to that as I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years before he died.
