I'm not able to watch the MSU/Purdon't game but from what the gamecast shows MSU D isn't what it was last year. I don't know if it is a case of MSU getting tired as the season wears on or if teams are figuring something out about that D. Either way, I hope our offensive coordinators are taking notes.

I am pretty sure they lost most of their LB corps and a few DBs as well.

Two starting LB, starting CB(best CB in CFB last year) and safety.

That is 4/11 of the defense gone and some important pieces. Secondary is not as good.

Their defense is still good and has shown they can dominate at times(Nebraska for 3Q, Oregon for half) but also lose it as the game draws on... Sounds like depth is not as good as last year.

I don't think anyone expected this D to be as good as last year's. However giving up 34pts to Purdue is head scratching when your D is supposed to be exceptional.
What I was getting at is I see cracks in that dam and hopefully our coaches have a plan in place that will blow it wide open (and our players execute that plan).

They looked very beatable against a bad Purdue team. Hopefully, Urban and rest of the coached won't make the same mistakes this time.
