It is dumb. Heard about it since last week and hopefully it doesn't happen.
GOod news is NCAA is adding a rule. You know how they reviewed the target rule and could change if a player was ejected? Well now if they rule it was not targeting, the player will not be ejected AND they will take the flag back also. Before, the player ejected was taken off but the 15 yard flag was still enforced. So that would be cool if that that rule is added.

Why not penalize the guy in the game the infraction happens? Are you concerned it isn't enough of a punishment for an infraction that happens late in the game?
I think of it as being similar to a flagrant technical in basketball.

Then, if they find that it was targeting, the player misses a game (if the player committed two penalties and they were both deemed targeting, they get suspended 2 games, etc).
I think that putting it to a replay official to make a decision on a pretty MAJOR penatly like that in a minute or two isn't fair, and the rulings have been fairly inconsistent this far so if you have a committee that does it every week, there will be consistancy.

If you delay it you run into a new host of problems, though. For example, for officiating a bowl game or NC game, there is no 'next game' to suspend the guy for. Plus we all know the schedules aren't all that balanced. If Alabama is playing LSU this week, but Savannah State next week there really isn't much repercussion for a dangerous hit in the LSU game (aside from the 15 yds). Also, what happens to the guy that does 5 dangerous hits in the same game? Is it the same as if he did it once?
All the other major sports manage to figure out their ejections in the game they occur, and an ejection in football is really kind of a joke compared to other sports. You've got an 85-man roster, and you still get to have 11 guys on the field after it happens.
It really just depends on how serious you are about whether the player's safety is in jeopardy. If you're comfortable treating it just like pass interference, then you're not going to get a whole lot of change of behavior.
