Make coaches sit out a year

Someone brought this up a few weeks ago. If a coach is under contract, he can go from school to school as much as he wants, yet players are locked in, and if they leave they have to sit out. Shouldn't coaches be held to the same standard, if not a higher one???

I think that was me. I just don't think it's fair to bang on a kid for wanting to leave a school when his coach leaves or other reasons but not bang on a coach for the same reason. I say don't bitch about either of them unless they lie about it(RichRod, Saban) because it's what's best for them.

Coaches are earning a living. You cannot force a guy to forgo income for a year. Just not fair.

It's a bad idea to make the kids sit a year too. Thought I heard once where the coaches(? or AD) at the school players leave can waive the 1-year sitting. Anybody else heard that?

I don't think you can waive the 1 year sitting once you are part of the team, most schools will let you out of a letter of intent, but if you transfer to another school of the same division you have to sit a year, you can go down to 1-AA and not sit like Antonio Henton and Joe Flacco did, and the big ten and possibly other conferences make you sit two years if you transfer within the conference.

I don't know about the NCAA rules in football or B/ball. However, I do know schools have the option to release an athlete and not force them to sit out a year. That happens fairly frequently in college wrestling, and typically the athlete is immediately eligible. However, Virginia Tech did force 4 transfers (transfers to Iowa) to sit out a year. So, in wrestling schools have the option of forcing a loss of eligibility for 1 year or let it go. Like I said, not sure how that translates to the higher revenue sports.
