Overall - B-: Yes, I will give this a passing grade. The offense looked as good as they have all season, and with the exception of two mental lapses, the defenses was solid. I was finally not mad at the offensive coaching, and I love the "JTB as the RZ QB" plan. Still areas to improve upon, but overall the best game I've seen from the Bucks since VT.
Offense - B: So, I have always hated the idea of a "dual QB" system, but this version might work. Jones has a cannon and is lethal deep. JTB is a shifty runner with a more accurate arm, and makes better decisions. So why not utilize BOTH of their strengths? I think it will also give Jones the comfort of not looking of his shoulder if he makes a mistake. Outside of that, the run game was solid, if not spectacular. They only punted twice, IIRC, were 6 of 6 in the RZ, and didn't commit a turnover. They still need to cut down on penalties, but overall this was a very solid performance from the offense (take it all with a grain of salt, however, as MD is awful).
Defense - C: When one part excels, the other part struggles, I guess. Overall, it wasn't a TERRIBLE performance by the defense. If not for two HUGE plays and the second team D just being bad, Maryland scores 7. Those big plays ARE concerning, to be sure, but they are easily fixed, so I don't feel the need to panic about anything. When you have an aggressive DL, the QB option is going to tear you apart, and that is precisely what happened. OSU won't play another QB as athletic as Hills the rest of the B1G season, though, so I am not overly concerned. Still, you'd like to see the defense play contain better. The deep bomb was blown coverage by Bell who got caught looking into the backfield. They did come up with a pair of turnovers, held the passing offense to nothing outside of the one pass play, and was consistently in the backfield. But 28 points to Maryland is still unacceptable, so you get a C boys.
STs - C: The Aussie was ridiculous, booming huge punts all day (3 for an avg of 55). The kicking game was bad, yet again, missing a 43 yarder and knocking one out of bounds. The KO and PR coverage was excellent. The punting evened out the kicking for an average day.
Coaching - B: How about that offensive adjustment, boys and girls? Like I said before, I never liked the idea of a dual threat system, but give credit to Meyer and co for coming up with a plan that seems viable. It sucks that it took them 6 games to fix the issue (and it might have been as much playing against a bad team as the game plan), but damned if it didn't work like a gem. I am a little disappointed at the lack of adjustment to the running QB, but OSU shouldn't see anyone like that again til the post season (if at all) so as long as they work on it in practice, they should be fine. Good gameplan overall, now let's get ready for PeeSU. With a not so mobile QB who likes to through from the pocket and a very wishy washy OL, I am hoping that the DL has a field day.
