Overall - C: Is the offense getting better or are my expectations lower? Is the defense getting worse or are my expectations higher? Not sure, but both came back towards the normal part of the curve this week.
Offense - C-: They looked much better this week, but there are still some glaring issues that need to be fixed. Jones cut down on the turnovers, but still had an inexplicable interception. Additionally, he under threw receivers multiple times, which is bizarre considering arm strength is his defining quality as a QB. JTB didn't get much time, but he may be pushing when he is getting snaps, because he likewise made a very bad throw. I still don't think the coaching staff knows what they want to do with Miller, but they need to figure that out. The scoring wasn't what we wanted, but a big part of that was WMU holding onto the ball for an almost unfair amount of time, winning the TOP battle 37-23. OSU had 12 drives and scored on 5, but when you take out the baffling end to the first half where they could and should have scored (if not for a bad penalty) and the "run the clock out" last possession, then they scored on 5 of 10. Not great, but much better than it has been.
Defense - B: They came back down to Earth a little bit after two dominating performances, but they were still pretty darn good. They were exposed a little bit on the interior of the defense, and for the first time all year it looked like they really missed Bennett. WMU beat them up with the run game, which is disappointing considering that WMU is not a good run team. This led to the disparate TOP numbers, which really hindered the offense. That being said, they shut down the pass game, pressured the QB, clamped down on the nations two leading WRs, and scored for the third straight game (on a beautiful pick by Diesel). Oh, and they only allowed 12 points. Not too shabby for a "down" game.
STs - A: Hey STs, I see you there! They did what they were supposed to and more. Made their FG, didn't kick it OOB on KOs, blocked a FG, blocked an XP, blocked a punt (called back on a bogus penalty) and the Aussie pinned WMU inside the 10 twice, including a punt downed at the 1 on a 67 yard boot. That's about as good of a STs game as you could ask for.
Coaching - C-: This coaching staff needs to figure out it's identity. They took some steps forward this week, but there is still a ways to go. They NEED to do more with Miller than just "wildcat" as everyone knows it is a run to the edge and it won't work. I am glad they finally seemed to stick with one QB, but now they need to adjust the scheme of the offense to work with him. EZE averaged 7.75 YPC and only got 16 touches, that is criminal. I trust Meyer and co implicitly, and even though the B1G season is starting they shouldn't be tested for a few weeks. That being said, they NEED to decide what kind of offense this is, and quickly.
