I read an article on 11 Warriors that broke down the NIU game. In that article it said early on NIU was using that 3-4 defense that gave us a bit of trouble against Hawaii but the coaching staff responded very quickly to it and countered it correctly. What we ended up seeing was simply players not being focused. The fumbles, the penalties that would wipe out great gains (like Samuel's 25yd run), and the poor reads by the QBs (all 3 INTs were on the QBs) were what doomed the offense. On the one hand it is encouraging to know our coaches are at least making the correct adjustment calls during the game. However, it is very concerning to see we have a team just going through the motions right now. You don't wake up after a loss...you do it BEFORE then.

I read the article, and I am not going to disagree with the author (as he is MUCH more informed about the X's and O's of football than I am) but it sounds like excuses.
Yes, 5 turnovers makes it hard to sustain drives and put up points. But they had FOUR turnovers against Oregon and still put up 42 on offense (or 35 and a garbage TD). This team can overcome turnovers. I don't think that turnovers are the issue here.
