Smart might be the guy to take on KU's B12 title dominance.

He shouldn't have too much trouble competing in the B12. They've been severely overrated for years. He's easily the 2nd best coach in the league (behind Self)

Easily? I like Smart a lot and would probably rank him second but there are some good coaches in the Big 12.

I think it's a great hire. I didn't expect it because he was black and with how much the alumni struggled with the Strong hire, I didn't think they'd go that route a second time. Good for them for progressing though. There were only three choices for them out there that made sense.

Smart will do well as long as he doesn't fall into the trap or solely going after the higher level of talent he has available to him now. He needs to continue recruiting the type of player that fits his system. That can sometimes be easier said than done.

So....is this a good hire?

Resume wise...he looks like he knows the game as well as anyone. Two HC gigs and a successful playing career.

Seems like the best hire they could have got. He's been out of the game for awhile, but he was successful in the NBA

Good hire. He should be able to relate to the kids and obviously knows the game.
