Buckeyes Land In-State Star Rashod Berry

Lorain (Ohio) defensive end Rashod Berry has committed to Ohio State over scholarship offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, Syracuse, Minnesota, Indiana and others according to Lorain coach Dave McFarland.

"Yes, he talked to the Ohio State coaches and committed, McFarland said.

The 6-foot-5 and 230-pound Berry is a talented prospect at both defensive end and tight end, but needed to take care of things for the NCAA Clearinghouse. He has done well academically in the past year and is now in good shape.

Berry is commitment No. 19 in Urban Meyer's 2015 recruiting class. His commitment comes on the heals of Cleveland Benedictine linebacker switching his commitment from Florida to Ohio State on Tuesday night and gives the Buckeyes another outstanding prospect that could play on either side of the ball for the Buckeyes.

Berry is a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 36 weak-side defensive end and the No. 31 prospect in Ohio.

Out of nowhere commit. Meyer just offered him little bit ago. So did Michigan State.

Sounds like Ohio State will try him out at TE. Project but good size. Here is hoping coaches found a sleeper.

TE, DE, LB, WR, he projects at a lot of positions, so I am assuming they will plug him at whatever position of need there is..

Do you think we'll ever go back to having a player that played both offense and defense? (like Chris Gamble did years ago).

I think it's a little risky because if he gets hurt, or just worn out, you've lost 2 starters. If I remember correctly, the reason we did that with Gamble was we needed help at the CB position, so he did both (along with punt returns).

I am not sure, but I doubt it simply due to the pace and amount of plays OSU's offense runs through in a game. It would simply be too many snaps nowadays for a player to play on both sides of the ball.
