Grade a Buckeye season -Coach Matta/Coaching staff

I give Thad/coaching staff a A-. I think they did a great job coaching this year, a team that probably did better than they should have. No Centers, No 3pt shooters. Tough end to the year, but I still give Thad a lot of credit this year. You lose Jared Sullinger/William Buford and don't replace anyone for them, and still have a successful season, that is very good in my books.

He finally showed us some variety in the lineup. Used his bench a bit and generally put the boys in the best position to win. Can't help if his players like chucking up quick shots and I don't imagine he tells them to take those shots.

Matta also put faith in his younger talent, i.e. Ross, which is something he didn't do in the past e.g. Crater and a few others that transfered/graduated.

Defense always an A+...minus the fact I feel 3 point shooting teams have their way with us.

The team has a tendency to lose focus. We should have beaten ISU by 12-15 points, and we should have been Witchia State if we played about 35 minutes of our brand of basketball.

I'm a bit disappointed in some of offensive skillsets of our players. Craft, Smith, Thompson, and Scott can't shoot wide open three pointers and they don't seem to have it in them to drive the basket. Our offense can be a little meh.

This was a work in progress for Thad and the staff, but they turned it completely around in the stretch run.

Look at where this team sits talent wise, look at where they were in Jan/Feb, and look where they ended up.

Everything people above said plus... During the season Matta laid the groundwork for a really nice 2014 class.

Agree. Hard to give out anything but top mark after the graduations from last year's team. Matta too, is progressing.

Honestly, I'm not sure it would have mattered who they played on that day... they beat themselves. We could be fortunate it was Wichita State, it could have ended a lot uglier without a chance at pulling out one of the worst played games of the season.

Team exceeded expectations until the expectations changed after the late season run. Still as a body of work, I give the A despite the team's performance during the last game.

For a normal school would have been a B. For a team with that payroll, had to go with a D
