CORAL GABLES — As many as seven freshmen from Miami's recruiting class may not be on hand when the Hurricanes report to school Thursday.
According to coach Randy Shannon, four incoming freshmen still have issues to resolve with the NCAA Clearinghouse and two other recruits already have enrolled in prep school after they were unable to qualify academically.
New Jersey linebacker Zach Kane is facing criminal charges and will not be allowed to report until the situation is resolved.
Kane was charged with aggravated assault in June after allegedly breaking a bottle over the head of a man during a party.
Shannon did not mention names, but it is known that C.J. Odom, a safety from Fort Myers, and Brandon Washington, an offensive lineman from Miami-Northwestern, have enrolled at Milford Academy, a prep school in New Berlin, N.Y.
Among the four other players with eligibility concerns is Antonio Harper, a linebacker from Memphis, who is expected to join Odom and Washington at Milford.
Brandon Marti, a linebacker from Miami Gulliver Prep, also was being held up by the NCAA but has reportedly resolved his problem and may be at UM for Saturday's start of fall practice.
