Had we played that same schedule this year, it would have been at least equal and maybe even a little better.
Va Tech on the schedule for both seasons. Northern Illinois, as the MAC champion is probably equal to UC, if not better. Navy and Western Michigan probably equal. Hawaii likely better than Kent State.
The absolute best part of all this is that Baylor got penalized, at least indirectly, for scheduling cupcakes. Forcing schools to now want to schedule quality ooc opponents is good for the game all around. I'm so sick of all this talk about this conference is better than that conference all season and there are only a few scattered games between them to even make a comparison on. You can't prove the Big Ten, right now (not week two...NOW) is "down". There aren't enough games from which to make a comparison. And you can't say the Big XII is better because TCU beat Minnesota or Iowa St beat Iowa. That isn't enough to go on.
The bowls will tell a better story, but it would be nice to get that story during the season with real ooc match-ups. That would actually give the committee (and the polls) data points with which to rank teams, instead of just perceptions and undefeated records thanks to a generous dose of cupcakes early in the year.
I don't think I am alone in saying, I'd rather not find out how strong the conference is during the bowls without having a better idea of it before the season is even over. I'd rather Ohio State went to the Macaroni and Cheese Bowl than get embarrassed again like in 2006, which is what started this whole nonsense.
Umm...you have seen our OOC schedule, right? We have our share of pastries too.
I wasn't saying we didn't. I didn't even imply we had a tough OOC schedule. I'm saying I want a tough OOC schedule, and that all of the power 5 teams should be playing each other OOC.
But Baylor's OOC...come on. They made ours look like a gauntlet. An FCS team and two of the worst in FBS? Baylor couldn't get in over Ohio State because they still had cupcake frosting on their mouth at the end of the season.
