Okay, I'm bored and decided to play around with the rankings. Below I will give you the CFP committee rankings and my guess as to what happens this weekend. Then I will give what would be my rankings.

My rankings would be different right now anyway but if that were to happen this weekend this is what mine would look like:

1. Florida State 9-0    Unbeaten defending NC

2. Mississippi State 9-0  Deserves strong consideration for #1 now but don't like their chances down the stretch

3. TCU 8-1                   Solid football team.

4. Notre Dame 8-1        underrated all year imo

5. Auburn 8-1               I think they beat Miss St. if there were a re-match

6. Ohio State 8-1          overrated to start but moving up after the disaster

7. Nebraska 9-1            underrated all year imo

8. Oregon 8-2               same old Oregon. May end up with 3 losses

9. LSU 7-2                   They Win out and would make my playoff

10. Ole Miss 8-2           LSU ended their chances     

11. Michigan State 7-2  Buckeyes get revenge!

12. Alabama 7-2           overrated imo. I think they end up with 4 losses

13. Kansas State 7-2     Just don't seem to ever have enough to get there but sooo close

14. Oklahoma 7-2         Same old same old from them

15. UCLA 8-2                Talent, talent, talent - just not there yet as a team

16. Marshall 9-0            I don't care which FBS conference you are in you deserve praise for being undefeated

                                   The rest just aren't there yet and WVU can beat anybody. Best 2 or 3 loss team imo

17. Duke 8-1

18. Utah 7-2

19. Baylor 7-2

20. Clemson 7-2

21. Arizona State 7-2

22. Wisconsin 7-2

23. Arizona 7-2

24. Georgia Tech 8-2

25. West Virginia 7-3 

My playoff guess/wish is:

#1 FSU

#2  Auburn

#3  TCU

#4 Ohio State

I think you've made a few contradictions on your SEC West teams in order to get us in.

Next to LSU you've mentioned 'They Win out and would make my playoff'. Yet, you don't have them listed among your 4 teams.

Next to Bama you say they end up with 4 losses. They only have one now, and assuming they can handle Western Carolina. This means you've predicted them to lose to LSU, Miss State and Auburn.

Mississippi State, you have beating UT Martin this weekend, then beating Bama from the statement above. The only other games they have left are Vandy and Ole Miss. Even if they were to beat Vandy, but lose to Ole Miss, I think they would still make the SEC Champ game with the one loss and the head-to-head win over Auburn. Or were you expecting both Vandy and Ole Miss would beat Miss St?

Something that bothers me with their rankings is how little head to head matters. TCU and Baylor share the same record/conference record. Baylor beat TCU, yet TCU is 6 spots ahead of Baylor.

you are reading too much into it.   I think Auburn wins the SEC. While I think Bama is overrated and should lose they find a way to beat miss st. but lose to AU.

it was a playoff wish. I really think ND and Oregon end up making it over TCU and OSU. If we win out I don't know if that bad loss should put us in, assuming there are those teams left with one loss.

I think in the end LSU ends up one of the best and deserve it, not that they go. All just fun and way too much football left to really know. There have been bigger upsets than vandy over Miss St. etc. etc.

I agree. Head to head should be one of the top criteria imo. TCU should always be behind Baylor. I'm pretty sure I ranked that way. If I missed one it was a mistake.

In the next couple weeks it will be a little clearer what would need to happen. But currently it looks bleak. We'd need something like what happened in 2007.

I think it depends. I could see a one-loss SEC team that is not conf champ getting in over us. Here's one scenario:
Mississippi State and Auburn each win out. Mississippi State would be 12-0 and play in the conf championship game. Auburn would be 11-1. Auburn's only loss would be to Mississippi State on the road. They would have winis over:
Kansas State
LSU
Ole Miss
Georgia
Bama.

Compare that to OSU who lost badly to VT at home, and only big wins were Michigan State and maybe Nebraska in title game.

I don't see how you could keep Auburn out in that scenario.

I've seen where they've said being a conference champ would be one of the factors they would look at, but not that it was the most important factor. Where did you see that it was?

Here is the criteria and it clearly tells them conf. Champ is a decider.
plus I have watched many interviews of the committee chairman and others stating winning your Conference matters a lot.

It also lists strength of schedule as a major factor. That would clearly favor Auburn in that scenario.

Unfortunately we won't know which factor will take precedence until the final rankings come out, since there are no conference champs yet.

Plus the analytical sos will fluctuate and is also subjective.
Conference champ is absolute.

The "football" guys in that room will be very persuasive towards Conference champs I have to believe
