The comparison and stats are so close

All year long I've been trying to come up with a comparison for McCarron but couldn't figure one out when I thought about it. And then last night, it hit me! Out of nowhere as I was watching McCarron get pressure on all game long. Last night in the Sugar Bowl game thread, I finally realize who McCarron reminded me of, and I said KEN DORSEY of Miami.

Then I did some research to back it up, and was amaze to see how close these two really are.

- Ken Dorsey 38-2 as a starter. AJ McCarron 36-4 as a starter.
- Ken Dorsey 2 time heisman finalist. AJ McCarron heisman finalist.
- Ken Dorsey played with Elite talent all around him. AJ McCarron played with Elite talent all around him.
- Ken Dorsey NC winner(and played in 2) as starter. AJ McCarron 2 NC winner as starter.

Ken Dorsey passed for 9,565 yards 86TD. Set longest streak of consecutive throws without an INT at Miami.
AJ McCarron passed for 9,019yards 77TD. Set longest streak of consecutive throws without an INT at Bama.


Last game of Dorsey career: Bowl game vs Ohio State. 14+ point favorite. Picked to kill Ohio State. Came into the game barely sacked all year long. Dorsey and Miami would lose and Dorsey was pressure all game long and had his worst game. 2INT.

Last game of McCarron career: Bowl game vs Oklahoma. 14+ point favorite favorite. Picked to kill Oklahoma. Came into the game barely sacked all year long. McCarron and Bama would lose and McCarron was pressure all game long and had his worst game. 2INT. sacked 7 times. Also fumble.


These two college careers are almost the exact same!!!! I will say, I think McCarron has a little more talent than Ken Dorsey. A better arm and accuracy. Ken Dorsey ended up a 7th round draft pick(due to poor arm strength, McCarron is a little better there), started a few games in the NFL but didn't last long. I think McCarron will be drafted earlier, start a few games also and a few more than Dorsey, and be a backup a little longer than Dorsey was able to be. But not much more. I hope he proves me wrong though, great kid. All class.

Both of these guys had amazing college careers and will go down in their team HOF(Dorsey already in Miami).

Troy  = pass rtg 157.1

Both played with tons of NFL talent around them

Troy - 1168 rush yards, 14 TD

McCarron - NEGATIVE 50, 3 TD

Troy was a RUNNING QB his first 1.5 years, so of course his passing stats are going to be lower.

Also, Smith only played QB in 32 games, not 43 (also McCarron only started 40 games).

Yes, he played in 11 games in 2003, but as a PR, not a QB.

You're comparing apples to oranges here Ref.

Yeah, but when you say PLAYED in then put up their QB numbers, that isn't fair.

You have to put their GAMES STARTED, anything else is nonsense.

McCarron started 40 games, Smith 32 (and 2 of those were split starts with Zwick).

So realistically McCarron has almost an entire season of QB snaps over Smith.

More importantly, let's look at the number of PASS ATTEMPTS.

McCarron: 1026

Smith: 670

So Smith has only 65% of the attempts that McCarron had. So let's give Smith the same number of pass attempts and extrapolate out his stats, shall we?

Smith:

Passing Yards: 8759

TDs: 82

INT: 20

So again, your stats are misleading, you aren't comparing apples to apples.

Troy was in a different system for almost a full season less, regardless of your "games played" stat, which is hilariously skewed.

Yes not as big as expected....like you said....different systems but comparing passing stats to passing stats not "he is god over them" different

and the main thing for me is rating nearly the same and td to int ratio
