If you think Beanie Wells' toe got too much coverage last year, Tim's concussion is going to put you into a seizure.
I want to say my peice here, and let the chips fall. First off, great hit by the UK player. Beautiful peice of tackling there. Helmet in the numbers, explode on contact. No foul by any one on what happened... this is football, injuries happen. The player did apologize, and expressed sorrow for the hit, but I don't think he needed to. I think he is just sorry someone got hurt, fair enough.
Secondly, Florida will be fine. The BYE week is at the best time, giving Tim 2 weeks to recover and get back on the field. It just makes the game against LSU much more difficult. Dan Mullen (Florida's ex-Offensive Co-ordinator, Mississippi States now head coach) runs the exact offense that has been implemented at Florida. They ran for 151, and almost had 400 yards of total offense. Florida running game is without question a better rushing team than MSU. Florida has quietly become the #2 rushing team in the nation, with over 300 yards per game rushing. LSU is ranked 65th nationally against the run.
Florida will stick to the run like it has the entire year with a stable full of backs to run the ball. I suspect Tim will play all 4 quarters if cleared to play, as from what i've been hearing about the injury, and his reactions so far, Tim is fine. But in the event Tim doesn't play, we have a quarterback in John Brantley, who frankley, can start at any college he wanted, he just happens to back up Tim Tebow. He is a redshirt sophmore, and is a better quarterback than Tim. He knows the offense, and will execute as well, or better than with Tim in the game.
Long story short, we are OK. Since we have slowly built up our running game over the past 2-3 years, we can lean more heavily on the running attack unlike in the past where we couldn't. We have 3-5 running backs that are all capable of getting handoffs for 4 quarters for W's.
Last night put everything in perspective for me. We really don't know what we have until we lose it. No one ever thought about what Florida football would look like without Tim, until last night. Looking at it, Meyer has built a great team. I've thought about it, and we will be OK.
On a side note, I predict Tim will be wearing a padded chinstrap from now on. I've always thought it was strange for a QB who plays physical, and runs a lot to have a regular leather strap. It's a comfort thing for me, and probably is for him. But I suspect Meyer and the staff will apply a padded strap to his helmet for LSU and so forth.
One story I heard that suggests to me that Tim is fine, is:From Meyer “I grabbed his hand and he grabbed my hand and I looked at him and I said ‘How you doin’?’ and he said, ‘Good.’ And he asked me, ‘Did I hold onto the ball?’ Typical Tebow. And he said, ‘What play was that?’ And I said, ‘Stick Lion.’ And he said, ‘OK.’ Then I looked at him and said, ‘It’s great to be a Florida Gator.’ And he said, ‘It’s great to be a Florida Gator.’”
